Dubai — The budget allocation of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Foundation for this year’s Ramadan charity has seen a significant spike of 102 per cent, as compared to Dh35.5 million spent last year on projects locally and abroad, according to a top official.
The foundation will spend Dh72 million on diverse philanthropic projects in the holy month of Ramadan this year.
Ibrahim Bu Melha, deputy chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees, said of the Dh72m to be spent this Ramadan, Dh49.5m will be on local projects against Dh22.96m abroad.
“The foundation is geared up to run 58 philanthropic projects for the benefit of tens of thousands of poor, needy, and low-income families in the UAE; and 39 Asian, African, Latin American and European countries.”
Bu Melha, who is also advisor to the ruler of Dubai for cultural and humanitarian affairs, said the Foundation has also earmarked more than Dh13.2m for the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, in memorial to the anniversary of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
“Five mega schemes are to be carried out under this initiative, including one in the UAE and four in three other countries.”
Meanwhile, the foundation was to increase the foodstuff packages and baskets by 16 per cent this Ramadan for the eligible low-income families, in collaboration with the LuLu hypermarkets.
