A 24-year-old Indian woman drowned while learning underwater diving in Dubai on Thursday evening.
The woman, who was on a visit to the UAE, was undergoing training for underwater diving at a depth of four metres.
The Dubai Police said the Operation Room of the Dubai Police was informed that a person had drowned while diving in Jumeirah 3 area in Dubai. The police rushed to the site and after gathering information from the witnesses ruled out any foul play.
Another Indian woman visitor, 20-year-old N.S., told the police that the accident took place around 7pm when the 28-year-old trainer went underwater with the trainee woman and other three people.
The trainer told the police that while they were diving he saw the woman removing her oxygen mask in panic. He said she stopped him when he tried to put it back on her face.
Soon she showed signs of breathlessness as she had gulped down a lot of sea water while struggling for life under water.
He then started controlling the diving equipment and pulled the life jacket to make her float.
The trainer said the woman was breathing when he gave her first aid to revive her from unconsciousness.
Later, the woman was taken to hospital, where she was declared dead.
The police ruled out any foul play and said that it was just an accident.
The body of the ill-fated woman was referred to the General Department of Forensic Medicine of the Dubai Police.
