Come year-end and Dubai airport gets busy with holidaymakers flying to their respective home countries to celebrate with their families, even as millions visit the country from all over the world to watch the magnificent fireworks.
A busy airport means you should reach your departure terminal a good three to four hours in advance. Of course, if you are lucky, you will breeze through the immigration in less than 30 minutes.

Now, how to spend those remaining hours?

Get a spa treatment

If you're tired of pushing your luggage trolley around, why not park it someplace first and have a seat at the many massage chairs available around the airport? You can also get express manicures and pedicures apart from a relaxing massage. Available in Terminals 1 and 3.

Stay connected

Whether you need to download your online ticket or have important emails that need to be checked, Dubai Airports offers free and fast Wi-Fi for your immediate needs. There are also Internet lounges around the terminals if you need access via desktop.

More than emails?

Free Wi-Fi and Internet lounges not enough? If there is serious work that needs to be done, Dubai International Hotel in Terminal 1 has meeting rooms, photocopying, binding and faxing facilities.

Sleep

If you're flying economy, you know that sleeping on the plane is a futile effort marked by a tiny legroom and small seating space. Get your power-sleep on by renting a Snooze Cube in Terminal 1 or 3. It's a soundproof cubicle with a TV, Wi-Fi access and an actual bed all for Dh75!

Leave your bags

Are your bags too heavy to enjoy shopping? You'll be happy to know that both Terminal 1 and 3 can look after your bags for a small fee of Dh25 for every 12 hours.

Take a shower

Want to look and feel fresh for your flight? Complimentary shower facilities are available at Terminals 1 and 3.

Tire out the kids

If you have a long flight ahead of you, why not tire out the kids so they'll be sleeping nice and tight throughout the flight? There is a children's play area at Concourse B with a mini-playground, TVs with cartoons and even a climbing area.

Work out

Working out before your flight is a foolproof way to fall asleep during your flight. There is a gym at Dubai International Hotel where you can do some exercises. Not only do you fall asleep on your flight, you get to shed some kilos too!
