Looking back into 2004, we came across Pixar's first superhero animation movie, The Incredibles! Needless to say it blew my four-year-old mind, and in retrospect the movie altogether was ahead of its time. Fast-forward 14 years and Incredibles 2 has maintained its standards.
In a world where superheroes have been forced to go into hiding for legal reasons, Helen - otherwise knows as Elastigirl - is recruited to lead a movement to bring back all Supers. On the other hand, her husband Bob, famously known as Mr. Incredible is now faced with the daily responsibilities at home with their teenage daughter Violet, hyperactive son Dash and super baby Jack-Jack. They will soon face a villain that will change everything. Director Brad Bird returns to voice the character of Edna Mode whereas famed actor Samuel L. Jackson reprises his role as Frozone, a close acquaintance of the super family.
The sequel puts forward a strong female lead and at the same time shows us the demanding and challenging role of a parent. The beauty of the movie is that every parent will be able to relate to Helen and Bob. The hilarious and stressful endeavours of a father left alone with his kids for the first time and the constant worry of a mother leaving her children for work is represented so well in the movie. The dilemma that Bob faces of becoming a stay-at-home dad while having his wife become the breadwinner, is an issue that is common around the world and the fact that they have shown that on the big screen is an important step forward in children's cinema.
The film also traces elements of how technology can be used to manipulate and control the minds of the innocent.
All in all, the movie shows children certain truths about the world in an accurate but entertaining format. Director Brad Bird has done a fantastic job topping the first movie with its sequel. The action-packed and humorous Incredibles 2 is the perfect film to watch to celebrate the concept of family. If you're looking for a lighthearted watch then this movie is the one for you. Guaranteed, super baby Jack-Jack will steal your heart!
