Hours after a pregnant woman from Virginia was allegedly sent home by the hospital, she had to deliver her firstborn in the bath tub.
LeeAnn Bienaime went to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia but was told to come back contractions were more intense. "I was told that I should come back when my contractions were when you can't really walk and you can't really talk through them," Yahoo Lifestyle quoted the new mother as saying in WTKR.
LeeAnn and her husband Leo drove 25 minutes to get back while she was already into labour. She eventually felt her son's head but wanted to hold back the labour until professionals arrived. The couple however realised there was no time and LeeAnn got into the bathtub while Leo called emergency services.
"I had to let instinct take over and just go with it and kind of release myself to the experience," said LeeAnn who delivered her son around four hours after leaving the hospital. Despite the hospital sending the couple away, LeeAnn claims she isn't "completely enraged". "I feel like if it had gone another way, it would've been a different story," she said.
While Naval Medical Center Portsmouth said in a statement: 'We are committed to ensuring the safety of every patient and providing high quality care. Whenever a patient has a concern about their care and treatment, we welcome the opportunity to discuss this with them and resolve any potential issues. The patient has been contacted directly about her care while here at NMCP'.
The couple has named their son Joachim who was born in the wee hours of August 24.
