A huge blast in port warehouses near central Beirut storing highy explosive material killed 78 people, injured nearly 4,000 and sent shockwaves that shattered windows, smashed masonry and shook the ground across the Lebanese capital.

#Beirut explosion was caused by an estimated 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate left unsecured for 6 years in a warehouse after it was confiscated by the authorities.Residents said glass was broken in neighbourhoods on Beirut's Mediterranean coast to suburbs several kms (miles) away.
