Islamabad - The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has won 14 out of 24 seats in the election for the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly.
The ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been routed win-ning only one seat. Its former chief minister Mehdi Shah has been defeated along with his cabinet ministers.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, which entered the GB politics only three months ago, emerged as second biggest party winning four seats while securing second place in most constituencies.
The opposition parties accused the PML-N of indulging in “pre-poll” rigging by appointing its lawmaker as Gilgit-Baltistan governor and naming a government employee as chief election com-missioner. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif held two big election rallies and announced scores of multi-billion rupees projects for the area which opposition termed as buying votes in violation of code of conduct.
Meanwhile The PML-N candidate Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar has won by-election for NA-108 Mandi Bahauddin by bagging 70,638 votes, according to unofficial results.
The runner-up, Pakistan Teh-reek-e-Insaaf candidate Moham-med Tariq Tarar got 42,029 votes in the contest. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) secured around 20,000 votes for the thirds place.
