Tired of holidaymakers illegally parking their cars near the Bristol airport, angry residents resorted to stern action for one such offender.
The owner of a black Peugeot 107 carelessly left the vehicle at New Road, in Lulsgate, just two miles away from the airport, leaving residents fuming. Taking action against the offence, the Peugeot was wrapped in clingfilm, lashed with eggs and a note was left on its windshield which read: 'If you can afford a holiday, you can afford parking'.
Pictures of the cling film wrapped Peugeot show egg shells lying under it with one of its tyres deflated, according to Bristol Post reports. Sam Lakner, 22, who spotted the Peugeot, said, "You get it a lot where I live. People just abandon their cars down side lanes. I think the residents have had enough. I once saw three just abandoned not even parked on the verge so we had a whole lane blocked," Bristol Live reported.
The menace has spread to other rural areas near the airport where unauthorised car parks are marketed as cheap alternatives against expensive airport parking lots. There have been cases where people leave their cars in fields, miles away from the car park base. One field near the village of Felton filled up with as many as 500 cars in August last year.
