Lieutenant-Colonel Hamad bin Ali Al Wahaibi, Director of Fire Safety, said the Royal Oman Police’s Civil Defence teams were conducting regular checks to ensure the safety of fire extinguishers, electrical connections and emergency exits.
Cases of violations in the first three months, he added, indicated negligence in applying safety precautions for protecting employees and buildings by a number of companies and factories. He said fire accidents were usually caused by lack of proper storage of materials, poor electrical connections, overloading of appliances and their inadequate maintenance.
