A newly wed couple's wedding turned into a disaster the moment they cut into their two-tier wedding cake which was stuffed with polystyrene. Shine Tamayo, 26, and her partner Jhon Chen, 40, from Pasig City, the Philippines, were fooled by their wedding planner whom they had paid 140,000 pesos (Dh9,800 approx) for food and decorations.
Not only was the cake made up of thermocol, the catering company also failed to supply food for the wedding guests and the couple were forced to carry trays of noodles and street food from a restaurant across the road. For dessert, the couple bought blackcurrant squash and served it to guests in cups.
"The woman we paid to do the food has ruined my wedding. She's a liar. She always asked me for money and I always gave her what she needs because I wanted my wedding to be perfect," Tamayo was quoted as saying in Metro.co.uk. The bride decided to go file a complaint against Krissa Cananea who organised the catering. Police probing the case, confirmed that the wedding cake base had been made entirely from foam wrapped in red icing and arrested Cananea.
Police also examined the pictures of the food ordered for guests at the wedding and got details of the payments the couple had made ahead of their wedding on December 3. Based on the proof, Cananea was arrested on suspicion of Estafa, a form of fraud, but was later released.
A police spokesman said, "The investigation into the wedding fraud is ongoing. We have confirmed that a large amount of money was paid for the service which was not delivered adequately. The provider has been interviewed and we intend to take the case to a trial."
While the Tamayo said she was not ready to accept apology and wanted Cananea to be jailed. "An apology is not good enough, she needs to go to jail. I have never been so humiliated in all my life. This was supposed to be one of my most treasured memories for my entire life. Instead it is the worst," an angry Tamayo said.
