Trivandrum — Family members of a security guard, who died in the brutal attack by businessman Mohammed Nisham at his posh apartment at Trichur in Kerala, have demanded a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the incident.
The Kerala police have charged the controversial businessman Muhammed Nisham with murder after 47-year-old Chandrabose succumbed to injuries he sustained in the attack after battling for life at a hospital in Trichur for nearly three weeks. Nisham had rammed his Hummer into Chandrabose and later beaten him with an iron rod after the latter could not open the gate of his apartment complex in time.
The family members of the deceased have expressed suspicion over the investigation by the local police mainly because of their failure to record his statement. The police did not attempt this saying Chandrabose could not talk.
However, Dhanesh, a relative of the deceased, refuted the police version. Dhanesh, who was reportedly beside Chandrabose ever since he was admitted to the hospital, said he had talked to him several times. He was concerned about his family, especially the children. He had urged Dhanesh to take him to a better hospital in Chennai or Bangalore.
Dr Rennis Davis, a member of the medical team that treated Chandrabose, also confirmed this. He told a television channel that Chandrabose had talked to him about his treatment and children. He could also identify people on several occasions during the course of the treatment.
The family members of the deceased suspect that the police did not take the statement in order to save the millionaire businessman, who has been allegedly trying to influence authorities by throwing money. Dhanesh said the family members will soon approach the authorities with a formal request for a CBI probe into the incident.
Nisham, who is facing 10 other cases, including one on allowing his minor son to drive a Ferrari, domestic violence and detention of a lady police official, is now in the judicial custody under the stringent Kerala Antisocial Activities (Prevention) Act.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala have assured exemplary action against Nisham, who is also under the scanner in a drug case. The police found cocaine after raiding his houses and flats following the arrest of a new generation Malayalam film actor and four others from a flat owned by Nisham’s mother at Cochin.
Meanwhile, hundreds of people bid a tearful adieu to Chandrabose, who is survived by his wife and two children.
