Swedish-based company Mentimeter has a unique way to celebrate its employees' hard-work: taking all the staff on a month-long leisure trip. The company, owned by Johnny Warström, was ideated in 2016 whilst he was on a trip to San Francisco along with seven of his colleagues. Today Mentimeter has 40 happy employees.
Warström said, "The trip glued us together in a way we had never experienced before." Since that memorable trip, Warström tries to replicate it by travelling with all his employees for a month every year. Mentimeter staff went to Barcelona in 2017, Lisbon in 2018 and their destination for 2019 is Palermo, Italy, reported MSN.
According to Warström the benefit of giving employees a respite from the daily office grind is undeniable. Moreover, Warström said the retreats have worked in favour of employee retention as only one Mentimeter employee has left the company in the past three years. Besides this, the retreats help generate innovative ideas that "wouldn't have come up in a normal week at the office" and give employees an opportunity to bond.
Mentimeter is an interactive meetings app that now has 20 million users worldwide.
