The health authorities have officially declared Bahrain free of Middle East respiratory syndrome (Mers). "A total of 1,356 cases have been examined but they all tested negative since the viral respiratory disease broke out", said Dr Mariam Al Hajeri, health director at the health ministry.
She cited the case of a Bahraini woman who recently came back after performing the Umrah and was suffering from acute respiratory problems.
The woman was examined by doctors who declared her free of the viral coronavirus disease Mers.
Good Word Society reviews IAKVW award committees
The organising committee of the Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa Voluntary Work (IAKVW) Award recently held a meeting chaired by Good Word Society (GWS)'s chairman Hassan Bu Hazza. The working committees at the level of the Arab world have been announced. Subcommittees have also been selected. The GWS marks the award's fifth anniversary in association with the Arab Voluntary Work Federation . The federation is affiliated to the Arab League which will celebrate the Arab Voluntary Work Day on September 15 in partnership with the UN Volunteers Programme. The previous editions of IAKVW witnessed the honouring of seasoned volunteers from 18 Arab countries. This year, more personalities will be honoured as part of the Award's September calendar.
36 students to go on educational trip to UK
Nasser Centre for Rehabilitation and Vocational Training is to organise an educational and cultural trip for 36 outstanding students to the United Kingdom during the ongoing summer holidays. The programme aims at providing the students with leadership skills, self-reliance, recognising the importance of teamwork and the importance of communication and opening up to the world. The managing director of the centre, Abdulrahman Al Hammadi, said that the programme is designed to reward outstanding students, encouraging them to maintain their distinctiveness and to be a model for the fellow students. He lauded the support of Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and his firm belief in providing proper education for the youth as they represent a key factor in nation-building. The deputy director for student operations and services, Salah Al Abdullah, said the trip is good opportunity for the students to be familiarised with cultures and civilisations of country they visit.
SCW holds media training workshop
The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) held a training workshop for the affiliates of the Awal Women Society under the title "Information and New Media a Strategic Vision and Success".
Held at the Awal Women Society's premises in Arad, the workshop was conducted by the social media expert at the SCW, Mohammed Abdulla. The lecturer highlighted the importance of social media networks in promoting the women societies' programmes and activities, given the growing number of users, especially youth. He stressed the need to build an effective strategy to communicate with social media users. The participants were offered training on ways to create accounts and use social media in an effective way. The workshop is part of the SCW's efforts to cooperate with women societies to build their capacities for empowering Bahraini women.
