Bahrain has backed a call to establish a special maritime force to tackle growing problems of pirates attacking fishermen working in the Gulf region.
Fishermen Union chief executive Mohamed Al Faraj told the Gulf Daily News that the Union supports a proposal submitted to the United Nations by an Indian-based non-governmental organisation, Tamil Nadu Fishermen Development Trust (TNFIDET).
"This is an excellent suggestion, which could be followed up as Iranian pirates are on the top of the list of threats and dangers faced by thousands of fishermen in the country," said Al Faraj.
SCW booklet highlights women's progress
The Supreme Council for Women (SCW) has issued a documentary booklet on the "National Report of the Kingdom of Bahrain on the progress made in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action + 20 for 2014".
The National Report was prepared with the participation of relevant sides in the country in order to project the real image that highlights the progress made concerning women's status at the official and local levels.
The National Report includes four parts.
The first part highlights the achievements and challenges encountered since 1995 in promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, while the second focused on the progress made in the implementation of critical areas of concern of the Beijing Platform of Action. The third and the fourth parts provide Bahraini women-related data and statistics and highlights emerging priorities, respectively.
It also includes a number of recommendations.
Bahrain to host global employers summit
Bahrain will host the first Annual Global Employers Summit Conference on October 6 to 7 in cooperation with the International Businessmen Organisation.
Entrepreneurs, companies, institutions and organisations from around the globe are expected to attend the summit, Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI)'s first deputy chairman Othman Mohammed Sharif said during a Press conference.
The conference will cover areas like focus on key areas of interest to employers and companies operating in a global context.
Tamkeen launches 'Molhem' exhibition
Tamkeen, in partnership with the General Organisation for Youth and Sports (GOYS), has launched a student exhibition as part of "Molhem", a unique programme offering youth career training through a series of workshops. The programme, part of Youth City 2030 initiative, aims to educate, train and equip the Bahraini youth with the practical skills needed to prepare them to join the labour market.
During the exhibition, students participating in the programme presented their projects that covered the various sectors that are vital to Bahrain's economy. The students were guided and trained by veterans and experts in business and entrepreneurship.
The programme is open to high school students between the ages of 16-18 year olds and hosts a series of courses highlighting essentials to assist students in selecting a career path while educating them about Bahrain's market. The courses emphasise education about entrepreneurial culture, launching commercial enterprises and self-development in the workplace.
