Satheesh Babu, prime accused in the murder of Kerala Catholic nun Sister Amala at Pala in Kottayam district on September 17, had murdered one more nun, according to police.
A police officer probing the case said on Tuesday that the accused had confessed that he had killed Sister Jose Mariya of the SH convent at Chettuthod near Erattupetta in April. About Rs70,000 was also found to be missing from the convent.
Satheesh Babu, who was arrested from Haridwar in Uttarakhand on Thursday, revealed during interrogation that he had broke into the convent around midnight and murdered the 81-year-old nun by hitting her head with a weapon.
The convent authorities did not complain to the police as they believed that the elderly nun may have fell down during sleep and died. A sum of Rs.600, 000 was found stolen from a provincial house at Erattupetta around that time. Police believe that 38-year-old Satheesh, who hails from Munnad in Kasaragod, had a peculiar fetish for nuns, a senior police official said on Sunday. Before Sister Amala's murder, he had attacked Sister Jaseentha of the same convent at Pala. He had also made similar attempts since November 2014-at Snehbhavan in Bharananganam, Catherine Convent in Koothattukulam, Adoration Convent in Vadakara and St James Ascension Convent in Paika. All the victims had a wound in the back of their heads.
Reports said that the accused had also attacked his teachers in the past and was even dismissed from school. He was also punished for attacking his wife on her head in 2009.
Sister Amala was found dead in her room at Pala Lisieux Carmelite Convent. Meanwhile, Satheesh was brought to the Pala convent on Tuesday, where the murder was committed. He explained to the police how he had entered the convent. He also confessed of having killed the Sister using a spade.
