A worker allegedly molested two underage girls in the lobby of a residential tower in Dubai, a court has heard. Public prosecution records show the 20-year-old Pakistani man inappropriately touched the two girls, who are both under 14, after spotting them alone on August 5. A case was registered at Al Barsha police station.
He denied two counts of molestation when he was brought before the Court of First Instance.
One of the victims told the prosecution investigators that it was about 1.30am when she went to the lobby with her sister to get a packet of juice from a vending machine. "We did not have a coin and asked a man - the accused - to give us one."
She said the man refrained from giving them the juice packet, but touched them in a "bad way" instead. "I screamed at him as we stepped back. My sister and I rushed to the lift. We felt scared as he followed us and we then told the watchman."
The two shocked victims rushed to their flat to tell their mother about the defendant's behaviour.
The girls' father said his wife woke him up at a late hour. "When I heard from her about what happened, I went down. The security guard told me that the suspect got inside the building to visit someone. I heard from the guard that the suspect sexually harassed my daughters."
The father told the prosecutor that the CCTV camera captured the suspect as he groped his older daughter.
A police corporal said they went to the tower after receiving the complaint. The police officers checked the surveillance cameras and talked to the father. "The footage was consistent with the older girl's account of what happened," the officer said.
A verdict will be pronounced on October 29.
