The Federal Supreme Court upheld a verdict on an Arab woman who was convicted of adultery by the Court of Appeals.
The Egyptian woman had published her 'lewd photo' on a social networking site which showed her sitting with a man.
The woman's husband, a GCC national, who found the picture on her Facebook account requested the police to take legal action against her in accordance with the provisions of Shariah and the UAE law.
The Court of First Instance acquitted the woman finding her innocent of the accusation.
However, the prosecution appealed against the ruling and the Court of Appeals quashed the lower court's "acquaintance sentence". It asked the judiciary to condemn the woman and order fine and deportation.
The woman appealed again and the case was referred to the Federal Supreme Court, which issued a final ruling of fine and deportation of the Egyptian woman.
The lawyer, Eman Sabt, said that the husband and wife are in early 30s. She said that the husband found the picture accidentally and was surprised to see her with a stranger which made him file a lawsuit against her.
The lawyer added that the complainant considered her act as marital betrayal, and therefore the woman was charged in accordance with the law.
