Ajman Police on Sunday managed to save the life of a young man after he attempted suicide by jumping from the top bridge in the emirate
According to Brigadier General Abdullah Saif Al-Matrushi, Director-General of Police Operations in Ajman Police, the operations room received a report that an Asian national threatened to jump off the Sheikh Khalifa bridge. Immediately a criminal investigation team and the police patrols reached the location for the rescue operation.
A video, posted by the police, shows how the authority intervened, initiated a dialogue and stopped the expat from jumping off the bridge in the nick of time.
He was sitting at the edge of the bridge when the police mediators spoke to him and tried to convince him not to take the extreme step. As one police officer engaged him in conversation, another personnel grabbed the man from behind, and two other officials leapt in action to drag him away from danger.
The Director-General of Police Operations added that the young man was transferred to the Hamidiyah Police Station, and after investigation it was found that the man was going through severe financial difficulties and decided to end his life. A thorough medical check-up was also conducted, and the Asian was found mentally stable and not suffering from any diseases.
His case was then referred to the community police to help settle his debt and resolve his financial problems.
