This came as His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah issued directives to evict bachelors from Al Qadisiah. The decision was taken after complaints by residents in Al Qadisiah over lack of privacy, unruly behaviour and thefts.
Bachelors and single men are not allowed to share apartments in Sharjah’s ‘family-only’ areas, but the practice is prevalent in Al Shuwahain, Al Guwair, Al Majaz, Maysalon and Al Qadisiah areas.
Families in these areas are now asking authorities to intervene and impose tough penalties on owners and tenants who rent or sub-let their residential units to bachelors.
“Our area was free of bachelors for several years, but now they have come back,” said AbdullAziz Al Ameri, a resident in Al Qadisiya.
Mohra Al Tunaifi, another resident of the area, said bachelors have increased because they “deceive landlords” by presenting family documents. “After they move in, they sub-let the villa to single men.”
Residential rules in Sharjah
>Who are allowed in stay in residential areas?
Families and white collar workers
>Where should blue collar workers reside?
In specialised zones like industrial areas and Al Sajja.
>What are the penalties?
Dh300 to Dh500 is the penalty. It is doubled if the violation is repeated.
