A 23-year-old Emirati man succumbed to injuries while racing with his car at the Emirates Motorplex racetrack in Umm Al Quwain.
Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, director of the traffic and patrols department, said they were alerted of the incident on Friday at 10:15pm. "A man reportedly collided with the side barriers of the racetrack while racing with another motorist."
The central operations room of the UAQ Police, having been alerted of the collision, dispatched traffic patrols, an ambulance, civil defence men, paramedics and rescue teams to the site.
"The young man could not make it and was declared dead shortly after being admitted to the Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Umm Al Quwain.
The car of the victim was totally damaged after somersaulting several times, he added. "Motor racers are urged to take all precautionary measures to ensure their safety while racing on racetracks."
