Indian expats in the UAE are upbeat about the state visit of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to their home country from today.
While the Indian business fraternity is excited about the prospective business and investment opportunities the visit heralds, Indian expats from other walks of life see the importance of the visit and how it will strengthen the strategic relationships between the UAE and India in different angles.
Social media manager and blogger Nasreen Abdulla, who has lived all her life in the UAE, said the news of the visit was absolutely thrilling to her."Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed is the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and his visit to India shows the strengthening bond between the two countries. Obviously, the two countries have had a historically symbiotic relationship but this visit cements their dedication to work together."
She said she expects a lot of positive outcome from this visit. "There will definitely be the usual trade agreements and counter terrorism agreements. But I am also hoping that there might be a gain for the Indian expat community from this visit - either in the form of easier visa processes or some mechanism to address the expat community's grievances or some way to prevent foreign workers from being exploited or something along those lines. I think such a sort of transparent mechanism is long overdue considering the sizable Indian community we have here."
Social worker K. Kumar said he was looking at the historic visit quite differently."While most have only been talking about the business aspect I look at the golden opportunity to appreciate and demonstrate our love and affection towards the Emirati brothers and sisters. With about 2.6 million Indians living here, human relations are more important. I hope this visit will herald a better future in that aspect."
"While most of the nationals have heard a lot about the rich culture and heritage that India possess many of the younger generation have not experienced the same. India has so much to showcase and give a firsthand feel of the abundant talent. As they say business is done in the golf course while golf is being played during business hours. Shower them with hospitality, affection and love. Business will automatically follow," he said.
Abhilash Mallya, an IT infrastructure manager, said he found the visit has a lot of significance in his field.
"Since I come from the Information Technology background, I find this visit has a lot of significance. I sincerely welcome the crown Prince's first official visit to India and it will be a pleasure to appreciate the relationship strengthening between UAE and India especially in the areas of Information Technology. India needs foreign capital and technology to develop its economy. Smart City in Kerala is an excellent example of successful Indo-UAE partnership and it would be great to see many other projects coming up for the advancement of India's technology and its professionals like me."
Vaishali Chatterjee Basu, a senior public relations professional, said the visit is a perfect testimony to the outstanding efforts made by the leaders of UAE and India.
"Shaikh Mohammed bin Zayed's visit to India within a short span of time post Narendra Modi's visit to the UAE, is a sure shot sign of the aggressive relationship building and economic growth effort being made by the two countries. This will definitely strengthen the already robust relationship between UAE and India."
