The Fujairah Misdemeanour Court has ordered two young Arab men to pay a cumulative fine of Dh6,500 after they were found guilty of overspeeding and posing a grave risk to other motorists.
Investigations revealed that the first accused was heading from Al Saif to the KM roundabout at a high speed on the right lane of the road.
“He suddenly lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and rammed into another car that was also found to be overspeeding. Two nearby shops were damaged because of overspeeding,” the investigators said.
The first accused owned up to his crime of reckless driving but denied overspeeding.
“I was driving the car when I was suddenly hit by the other car,” he said.
“I don’t know who is responsible for damaging my car,” he added.
He claimed that the accident occurred when he hit the brakes and subsequently lost control of the steering wheel.
The second accused, who was driving on the left lane, claimed ignorance. “I don’t know how the collision occurred,” he told the court.
The court overruled the duo’s arguments and presented them with video footage, which proved that they were overspeeding.
The first and second accused were ordered to pay a fine of Dh3,500 and Dh2,900, respectively, and another Dh50 each for court charges.
