Abu Dhabi motorists have been urged to abide by the traffic laws during the Eid Al Fitr holidays.
The Abu Dhabi Police on Monday issued a statement calling on drivers to adhere to traffic rules and regulations and abide by speed limits on roads, to avoid accidents during this long Eid holiday.
Brigadier Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director of the Central Operations Department said the force has set up a comprehensive road safety plan, which includes intensifying patrols near tourist attractions, parks, and internal and external roads of Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Dhafra region.
"Drivers should observe speed limits, pay attention to the road, leave enough distance between vehicles, ensure passengers fasten their seat belts, take rest when feeling tired, and turn on the hazard lights when slowing down, or stopping," he said.
Al Khaili also urged motorists to check their vehicles properly before beginning a long journey. He also advised them to inspect their tyres and not use counterfeit tyres as they could burst in the summer heat.
He urged drivers to avoid speeding on internal and external roads and to fasten their seatbelts, as they provide significant protection in the event of a traffic accident.
The officer has reminded family members to pay attention to the movements of children inside the vehicle and to ensure that they are buckled in the rear seats of the vehicle.
Parents have also been told to talk to their teenage children about the dangers of reckless driving and driving without licenses.
According to the officer, tough penalties will be imposed against reckless drivers and anyone caught violating the traffic laws.
