Education regulators in the UAE have clarified that second semester final examinations will not be held for public school pupils.
The pupils’ performance in the second term for all grades will be evaluated as per the formative or progressive assessment, authorities said.

In a circular issued to public schools recently, the Emirates Foundation for School Education stated that during the current academic year (2020-21), pupils from Grade 1 to Grade 12 in these institutions and those following the UAE’s Ministry of Education’s (MoE) curriculum would be evaluated according to their progressive assessment.
“Pupils' evaluation in the second semester depends on the performance of students in the progressive assessment. This is implemented by the teacher according to the central directives contained in the curriculum plans and is available on the learning management system (LMS) platform,” said officials.
The authorities, however, noted that an online English language test would be conducted for pupils from Grades 4 to 12 between March 21 and 25.
There is also a provision of an alternative test at the beginning of the third semester for pupils who may have missed the basic English examination — or those who may have encountered other technical glitches during the exercise.
Schools have also been reminded about the need to activate all educational platforms to implement the formative or progressive assessment procedures according to the subject and grade.
The circular said the formative evaluation weightage in the second semester of group (A) subjects for Grades 1-4 and 5-12 carries 30 per cent and 10 per cent, respectively.
As for group (B) subjects, the progressive assessment for Grades 1-4 and 5-12 carries 10 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively.
The circular stressed the importance of activating all educational platforms to raise the pupils' skills during the upcoming spring holidays.
