In his last phone call to his family before he died, Emirati martyr Khalifa Badr Sulaiman Jawaher Al Hamadi wanted to speak to his daughter, but could not as she was sleeping. "He died without being able to speak to her one last time," Al Hamadi's 23-year-old wife told Khaleej Times.
The wife said she was the last to speak to the martyr and she actually "heard explosions". "I was the last to hear his voice on the morning he died. I heard explosions and the line got disconnected."
The brave heart, who hailed from Sharjah, had taken on the mantle of head of family after his father died in a traffic accident in June this year. Al Hamadi became a father figure to his five brothers and six sisters and saw to all their needs, said his mother.
Al Hamadi was born to a poor family, which often found it difficult to make ends meet. He had to leave school and worked as a trader and in the fishing sector before joining the UAE Armed Forces in 2012.
His mother described him as an obedient son 'who loved me very much'. "My son was eager to come back from Yemen to solve some problems we had in my documents and that of one of his sisters.
"I am proud that he sacrificed his life for the nation, but I am worried about his siblings and his children. He has two daughters, one is two years old and the other is just four months old," said the mother.
His wife has vowed to bring up their daughters the way he would have wanted: As loyal citizens of the UAE. "I will teach my daughters to love their country the way their father did."
