Tributes poured in for a Dubai school security guard who was killed in a traffic incident just outside the campus' gates.
The man, a Nepali named Lil Bahador Pariyar, was reportedly on duty at the Universal American School of Dubai (UAS) when the incident happened on Monday, October 14, afternoon.
A spokesperson from the UAS said: "An unfortunate incident took place outside the school gates of UAS on Monday afternoon, which sadly resulted in the passing of one of our security guards.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the security guard and the rest of the security team at this difficult time and we are offering our full support."
As news of the tragedy made rounds in the school's community, bundles of flowers were laid and tied to a gate of the UAS.
Students also left a board with a heartfelt note, saying: "Every morning when we came to school, you would greet us with a smile. Every evening when we left, you waved us goodbye ... Even when we didn't see, you would keep us safe. "We hope you rest in peace and know that you will be missed by so many. Thank you for everything you ever did for us all."
Others expressed their condolences on social media.
"We will never forget you. May your soul rest in peace," Eunice Tungala posted on Facebook.
Brigette Badang also said: "My deepest sympathy to the family of Lil. You're such a kind hearted guy. Rest in peace."
The Nepalese community in the UAE was also saddened over the news.
Sukumar Mechi, a logistics assistant who has been in the country for 10 years, said: "It's a very sad and heartbreaking news. It's sad to the Nepalese community to see one of our own pass away."
Ashish Aale Magar, a Nepalese security guard who works at another school, fondly remembered Pariyar as a man "who is always smiling".
"He was a very nice guy... He was very honest and it's very sad news that this has happened. He has a family and children in Nepal and I cannot imagine what pain they must be facing. I am praying for them and may he rest in peace," Magar said.
