Tributes and condolences are pouring in thick and fast for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, who passed away on Wednesday.

People from all walks of life, including royals, ministers, foreign dignitaries, businessmen, are paying their homage to the departed soul.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, announced the tragic news on Twitter on Wednesday morning.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, also retweeted the post of Sheikh Mohammed.

Shekha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture and Member of Dubai Council, said: “May God have mercy on you, my dear uncle... The eyes are tearful, the heart is grieved, and we are sad about your separation, but we only say that which pleases God: ‘We belong to God and to Him we shall return.’”

Dr. Ahmad Belhoul, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises at Ministry Of Economy, UAE, said: “Oh God, have mercy on Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum... We ask God, the Highest, the Almighty to shower His mercy... We belong to God and to Him, we shall return.”

Sarah Al Amiri, UAE’s Minister of State for Advanced Technology, said: “We belong to God and to Him we shall return … His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum may God protect him … Oh God, forgive him and have mercy on him and honour his residence and dwell in your spacious gardens .. May God rewards you.”

Sara Falaknaz, UAE’s Federal National Council Member, also mourned the death of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum.: “We belong to God and to Him we shall return... May God have mercy on him and forgive him, and He shall dwell in His spaciousness,” she tweeted.

Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the UAE President and the UAE’s Ex-Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said: “Today, the Emirates lost a great man; we lost a dear and magnificent man. May God have mercy on Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum. We pray to God Almighty to relieve to give strength to his children and to the honourable Maktoum family.”

Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, former chief of Dubai Police, said: “The eye is in tear, the heart is grieved at your separation, Hamdan bin Rashid. We belong to Allah and to Him, we shall return.”

Hussain Al Jassmi, an Emirati composer, tweeted: “We belong to Allah and to Him, we shall return.”

Hussain Sajwani, chairman of Damac Properties, said: “I’m deeply saddened by the news of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his whole family and the people of the UAE. He will be truly missed and forever live in our hearts and minds.”

Kamal Vachani, Group Director of Al Maya Group, said: “We’re saddened to hear the news of passing away of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE’s Minister of Finance. The UAE lost a great leader and a man of integrity. Under his leadership, the UAE made great strides in the field of economy and finance.”
