Four men have been charged at the Dubai Court of First Instance after they allegedly robbed face masks and nuts worth Dh167,000 from a warehouse.
According to public prosecution records, the Asian men used a chainsaw to break the locks of the warehouse of a trading company. Prior to that, they smashed the glass of a bus that was parked in front of the warehouse door and moved it away to clear the way.
They robbed 100 big boxes of medical masks (each box contains 50 small packs) and 32 boxes of nuts worth Dh167,386.
As they face charges of forceful robbery with the use of sharp tools and damage of private property, all of them have been placed in detention.
The owner of the company, an Iraqi, said that he discovered the robbery around 8am on June 7. "I found the locks were broken and the bus moved from where it had been parked. I called the police.''
The owner told the prosecutor that when the police officers arrived he estimated the loss.
A police lieutenant said a robbery incident was reported in the industrial area of Al Qusais. "The whole incident was captured on the surveillance cameras. The thieves were seen arriving in a vehicle, then moving the bus, breaking the locks with a chainsaw and robbing the merchandise before fleeing the place. Through investigation, we traced two suspects who lived in Sharjah. We arrested them in the industrial area of Sharjah after getting a public prosecution warrant and in coordination with the emirate's police."
The other two accused were later apprehended from the same area.
A ruling will be issued on August 25.
