The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has set out a traffic plan for the Dubai Marathon 2017, which kicks off on Friday, January 20, in cooperation with the Dubai Police and the UAE Athletics Federation. The event encompasses three races: a Marathon over 42 km, a road race over 10 km, and fun run over 4 km.
The RTA has taken necessary actions towards managing the traffic movement on the three courses of the event. The impacted streets will be opened gradually after the passing of the last contestant starting from 9:00 am until the end of the race at 12:00 noon.
The closure of roads used by the race coordinated with the Dubai Police involves the management of traffic movement on intersections of Jumeirah Street and King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street from 06:00 am to 12:00 noon. Alternative traffic routes will be provided around the course of the race and surrounding streets in the area in order to mitigate the traffic impacts of the event.
The route of the 42-km long marathon starting from Umm Suqeim Street (between the two intersections of Dubai Police Academy & Madinat Jumeirah), passes through King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street (between the intersections of Madinat Jumeirah and Dubai Media City), Jumeirah Street (the sector between Madinat Jumeirah and the Dry Dock), and returns to Umm Suqeim Street.
The route of the Road Race, extending 10 km, starting from Umm Suqeim Street (between the two intersections of Dubai Police Academy & Madinat Jumeirah) and passes to the intersections of Madinat Jumeirah and Dubai Media City on King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street and back to the starting point.
The route of Fun Run over 4 km, runs between the two intersections of Dubai Police Academy & Madinat Jumeirah on Umm Suqeim Street, passes through Omran Tariam Street in the direction of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Street, and returns to the starting point as shown in the chart.
RTA calls on road users to cooperate with the concerned bodies to ensure the success of the race through observing traffic instructions and directional signage leading to alternative roads such as Al Wasl Street and Sheikh Zayed Road during the morning period of road closure. Such compliance will enhance the safety, and enable RTA achieve its vision of Safe and Smooth Transport for All.
