A new cluster of floating islands is set to be built in Dubai as part of a mega project announced by the emirate's Roads and Transport Authority on Sunday.
Called Sunset Promenade, the project will give rise to a new family-friendly beach destination in Dubai, covering a total area of 190,000 square metres.
The 1km-long promenade will be connected to Jumeirah Beach near the Dubai Water Canal. It will feature a modern, stylish design, complemented with greenery and sandy hills, according to a video tweeted by the RTA on Sunday.
Some 1,410 square metres of its area will be occupied by shops, and private parking spaces will also be built.
The RTA first unveiled the Sunset Promenade in April 30 last year. It was part of a slew of happiness projects that were approved by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Among the other future projects that the authority presented at that time were the Sky Garden, a footbridge that will link several landmarks along the shores of Dubai Creek; and the Sheikh Zayed Road Promenade, which will turn a viaduct between two Metro stations into a green, modern space for cyclists.
The RTA's latest video about the Sunset Promenade didn't specify when the construction of the project would begin.
