More than 400 members and special guests from the Pakistani community attended a recently-held youth summit in Dubai.
The Pakistan Youth Summit 2016, which was held at The Address Dubai Marina on Friday, highlighted the key issues of the Pakistani society.
The summit organised by the Pakistan Youth Forum (PYF) of Pakistan Association Dubai intended to inspire the youth to be productive members of society through self-improvement and community work.
Umair Jaswal, the International Human Rights Commission's Education Ambassador to Pakistan, the first guest of honour at the summit, highlighted the value of education and disparity between the public and private school systems.
Recipient of Great Women Awards in Gulf, TV anchor Sidra Iqbal, who was the second guest of honour at the summit, encouraged the youth to start from home in order to bring a change.
Another guest of honour was Abia Akram, chair of the Youth Council of Unicef and co-chair of the Asia Pacific Women with Disabilities United. Akram emphasised the importance of loving and believing in oneself during her talk about self-confidence and leadership.
Leading Pakistani human and civil rights activist, Ansar Burney was the chief guest for the evening. He spoke about his experiences, fighting for the human rights and Pakistan's relationship with the UAE.
"The UAE is our second home, so we should love it and serve it as we would serve Pakistan," he said.
Burney, who was also part of the panel discussion addressing some of the issues raised by the young attendees, distributed mementos.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zia ul Hasan, President of Pakistan Association Dubai, said: "This is a great step towards the future by the youth of Pakistan. We wish to see more of such events soon." "We wanted to provide an opportunity to the Pakistani youth to come together and collaborate as well as learn from experienced members of society," said Dr Jameela Haq, founder and chairperson of PYF.
"We intend to make this an annual summit where we will encourage dialogue between the youth and experienced members of the society," she added.
The summit ended with an exhibition to commemorate the Pakistanis who are working towards the betterment of the community.
A day before the summit, a workshop was conducted for students of Pakistan Education Academy at Pakistan Auditorium in the Pakistan Association Dubai.
Abia Akram conducted the session on the topic 'How to Make Global Impact through Education'.
