A device to sterilise police dogs before and after their tasks has been rolled out in the Capital.
Abu Dhabi Police said on Thursday that it has developed the police dog sterilisation device affiliated with the Security Inspection Department (K9) in the Security Affairs and Ports Sector.
"We ensure the safety of police dogs and their trainers before and after the tasks assigned to the security inspection team. The device contributes to limiting the spread of diseases that can be transmitted to humans through animals. It also reflects the societal and humanitarian responsibility of the Abu Dhabi Police in strengthening the system of prevention and protection from Covid-19," said Brigadier Jamal Habash, director of the security inspection department at the Abu Dhabi Police Security Affairs and Ports Sector.
"The device comes within the framework of the interest, support and motivation of innovators and owners of new constructive ideas, to develop their innovative projects in a way that strengthens the national strategy for innovation," he added.
Earlier this month, the UAE authorities had trained K9 police dogs to be employed to sniff out Covid-19 positive cases from the crowd. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said it had completed trials on K9 police dogs who may now be employed to help them curb the spread of Covid-19.
The move to use canines to sniff out Covid-19 cases followed the successful completion of practical experiments and scientific studies. Figures from the experiments indicate that the canines would be able to quickly detect infected cases, help protect key sites, deal with huge crowds and secure large events, airports, and other places.
