Shots were fired as the world's best special armed response units went head to head at the assault round of the UAE SWAT Challenge on Monday.
Jumping wooden barriers and firing at metal targets using sniper rifles, pistols and machine guns, the 46 participating teams proved their mettle, as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, watched the action.
Lt-General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, also attended the event.
Organised by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), in cooperation with the Dubai Police, the challenge is set to run until Thursday.
Teams from 26 countries will be competing in a total five categories. The tactical event was held on Sunday, with the Dubai Police Team A clinching the top spot.
Mission toppers
For the assault leg on Monday, the same Dubai team won first place, completing the mission in only two minutes and two seconds.
They had to eliminate all the targets in an open area and get past several obstacles as fast as they could, with a goal of bringing a stuffed dummy to the finish line.
Following the Dubai Police, the Russian team RYS completed the challenge in two minutes and six seconds, while the third place went to another Russian team, RUS, with two minutes and eight seconds.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the MoI for its efforts in hosting the challenge for the second consecutive year.
The event was also attended by Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Maj-Gen Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police.
