Khalifa Masoud, chairman of the Fujairah Fishermen association described the shark attack on a fishing boat on Sunday as the first of its kind in terms of the attack, and the size and strength of the fish.
"This variety is a man-eater and most dangerous," he said, "waiting to catch its prey before returning to the water."
"The divine providence (Grace of God) saved Hamza and crew; this type of sharks are prone to destruction," he said.
The deadly shark jumped on board the deck in an attempt to pounce on one of the crew, but the man was saved as the shark hit on the railing before it settled in the middle of the boat.
Hamza and the rest of the crew managed to catch the fish, which showed great resistance, and kill it. One of the crew members was badly hurt.
The fish will undergo the process of taxidermy and be stuffed and kept in the premises of Fuajirah Fishermen Association, said Masoud.
The brother of the owner of the fishing boat, Mahmoud humaid Al Sharq who is also chairman of Fujairah fishermen'd association said the four-metre-long shark which weighs two tonnes, locally known as Al Dhaiba, is known for attacking humans. "It can jump as high as five metres and is very powerful and skillful in catching its prey. The attack caused damages to the deck, railings and the steering wheel," he added.
