Due to the recent increase in fatal accidents during weekends caused by over speeding, Sharjah Traffic Police have organized an traffic safety awareness campaign to reduce accidents.
The awareness campaign, which kicked off today, is organized under the slogan "follow speed limit for your safety".
Police said during 2105, a large number of people died due to reckless driving and over speeding. "It happens every weekend" he said.
The campaign is aimed at spreading traffic safety culture among the youth who drive recklessly and speeding drivers, who cause fatal accidents.
Colonel Shawaf AbdullRahman, Director of Traffic and Patrol Department at Sharjah Police Department, said that the campaign would also intensify inspections, targeting reckless driving, over speeding and playing in the road.
The police is keen to carry out the inspection and awareness campaign throughout the year to curb the reduce accidents. As part of the campaign, they are also distributing publications, vouchers and first aid boxes to motorists to inform them about the importance of following traffic rules for their own safety.
