Dubai's Port Police Station has launched a campaign to spread awareness among sea-goers, as per the directives of Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police.
The campaign was inaugurated on Jumeirah Beach in the presence of Brigadier-General Abdullah Rashed, Director of Port Police Station, Lieutenant-Colonel Saeed Al-Madhani, Deputy Director of Port Police Station and a number of other officers.
The campaign aims to educate beach visitors about the protective measures to be taken while swimming in the sea and the steps required to avoid accidents of drowning. Brig-Gen Rashed said that 29 people drowned while six others were rescued in 2016, while 24 drowned and four were rescued in 2015.
The campaign, which began on Sunday, will last for a week, during which awareness brochures will be distributed by the police department. A guide highlighting the security measures to be taken by the beach visitors like analysing the weather and sea conditions and following the general regulations along the beaches will also be distributed. It will also include instructions on using of life jackets, descending into the sea alone, swimming in designated areas, taking caution while swimming after sunset and avoiding sun strokes in summer while using parachutes.
