The Ras Al Khaimah Municipality has removed 15 makeshift houses in different areas of the emirate to help complete ongoing infrastructure development projects.
The civic body has communicated with the owners of these makeshift small houses for financial settlements, according to a top official.
Munzir bin Shukr Al Zaabi, director-general of the municipality, said some of these houses were blocking new road projects or hampering development of others.
The experts concerned had earlier surveyed the entire region and identified all the makeshift houses that needed to be removed for obstructing the infrastructure projects, he added.
"We have contacted the owners of these makeshift houses, particularly at the areas of Al Hamraniya, Sawan, Wadi Al Qoor, Al Rifaa, and the Dheit South area."
Ali Saeed, an Emirati national and owner of a makeshift house here, said he reached an amicable settlement with the municipality following which the house was demolished.
"We have no problem at all, and can only give nod to any infrastructure project for public interest," he said. "This also adds more value to the road network of the emirate, and enhances its safety and security."
