The arterial Shaikh Mohammed bin Salem road in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is to be partially closed for six months for infrastructure and development works.
Engineer Ahmad Mohammed Al Hammadi, director-general of the department, on Thursday, said the major road is to be partially closed from May 1 to October 29.
"A section of the 1.6km of the road is to be closed from Al Jisr Bridge to Pizza Inn in collaboration with the RAK traffic police," he said, urging drivers to take alternative roads to avoid congestion.
The waste water authority of the government of Ras Al Khaimah is to change the whole sewage network and install new pipes, he added.
"The scheme is part of a number of new infrastructure projects meant to renovate and improve the sewerage network assets across the whole emirate."
As a start, the waste water authority is to replace 1.6km of sewer pipes on the Shaikh Mohammed bin Salem road, known as (E 11), Eng Al Hammadi elaborated.
"Replacing the sewer pipes will further allow infrastructure projects which will assist in the addition of new connections to the sewerage network."
The project will also help eliminate the need for septic tanks, limiting environment disturbance in addition to improving health conditions and quality of life for the residents of Ras Al Khaimah, Eng Al Hammadi said.
