The Dubai Municipality (DM) has launched a new campaign called 'Our eyes are on you' to apply the best food control standards on products and services.
The campaign - jointly started by the Food Safety, Assets Management and Waste Management departments of Dubai Municipality - was launched in the Dubai Fish Market and will continue throughout the year.
Launched under the directives of DM's Director General to ensure the quality and safety of food commodities available in the emirate's markets, the campaign will strive to ensure that all traders of fish, meat and fruits offer only the finest.
Iman Al Bastaki, Director of Food Safety Department at DM, said: "In addition to that, the campaign will try to ensure that the traders maintain the cleanliness of storage areas and comply with the rules and regulations, as well as adhere to the Municipality's food safety system."
The campaign will also monitor violators and submit accurate reports to determine the safety of the food products offered to consumers.
"The campaign drew good response from traders and workers in the Fish Market and the Vegetable Section. All workers were given proper guidance and instructed on the need to offer the finest foodstuff and follow the proper storage procedures. If any commodity is found unfit for consumption or does not comply with the food safety requirements, it will be confiscated," said Al Bastaki.
"Special supervision is required throughout the year, so dedicated teams have been formed for the control of various food commodities such as fish, meat, fruits and vegetables," she said.
