His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President in his capacity as ruler of Abu Dhabi issued on Wednesday a law on preservation of the cultural heritage of the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The law aims to protect the cultural heritage of the emirate, uncover, preserve, manage and promote it. Provisions of the law will be applicable to the cultural heritage of the emirate as well as the material foreign cultural heritage inside it.
The law stipulates that the material cultural heritage is deemed as public property of the emirate unless the owner of such a heritage site proved his title to it.
In most cases, the law deems 'underwater heritage sites' as public property of the emirate.
The law has regulated the powers given to the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority and its jurisdiction on the cultural heritage of the emirate.
