The Sharjah Municipality has introduced new hygiene and health regulations to be imposed on all salons - both ladies as well as gents - as part of the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The civic body has instructed the staff of all hairdressing salons and beauty centres to wear hand gloves and face masks, said Thabit Al Taraifi, director-general of Sharjah Municipality. Salons have been asked to avoid crowding of customers on their premises and maintain proper ventilation, he added.
Al Taraifi underlined that the municipality is implementing extensive awareness and inspection campaigns targeting salons and hairdressing and beauty centers to ensure they remain committed to the facility's cleaning and disinfect and sterlise their equipment and tools. The campaigns will focus on personal hygiene and sensitise workers about the importance to wash hands continuously while providing hand sanitisers to the salon customers.
Al Taraifi pointed out that the municipality will ask salons and beauty centers to limit the presence of people and allow only customers who come to avail of the service. They should not entertain customers who have symptoms of cold and flu, he pointed out. Customers should be asked to leave the salon immediately upon receiving the service, he said.
Al Tarifi explained that the municipality has rolled out the new regulations as it is keen to safeguard the visitors and employees in the salons.
He urged the public not to hesitate to communicate with the municipality through the call center on the number 993 if they want to report any issue.
An official at the health inspection department of Sharjah Municipality said since Tuesday, the civic body has stepped up its checks on salons and keeping a tab if they are complying with the new hygiene rules and the conditions laid down.
