A service agent at the airport admitted to police officers he lured a 19-year-old British traveller to a hotel room thinking he would have sex with her, the Court of First Instance was told.
The 27-year-old Pakistani man booked a hotel room for the woman and was sitting beside her on the bed as she tried to sleep. He caressed her hair, massaged her legs and knee but he was stopped before he could go further. The traveller woke up when she felt his hand on her body and rushed out of the room.
He pleaded not guilty to a sexual assault in court.
The case dates back to January 10 at the Dubai International Airport.
"I was at the airport, terminal 1, around 4 am waiting near my airline counter to check in. A man (the accused) came to me and told me the counter would not open before 7:30 am and invited me to coffee. I accepted his invitation and came back later to wait. He then told me my flight would be late and it would be better if he booked a hotel room for me," the traveller who is a student, said.
"I went with him after he booked the room. I was there when he got out of the bathroom wearing nothing but his underwear. I told him to leave but he said he would just take a nap because he felt exhausted. He said it was for my own good if he stayed with me as he was in direct contact with the airport".
He caressed her hair and she slept for few seconds only to wake up and feel him touching her knee. She stood up, took her bag and left the room as the man apologized to her.
She complained at the airport police and left later. Her statement could not be taken later by the investigating prosecutor as she was unreachable. However, before she traveled, she identified the accused when shown his photo by the police.
"The defendant confessed he took the complainant to the hotel room to have sex with her," a police lieutenant said.
"He could not get what he wanted as the woman woke up and panicked after she felt him touching her legs. He admitted he did wrong and asked for forgiveness and help."
The defendant confessed he took the woman to the room and said she went willingly. He claimed he only touched her hair as he wanted to wake her up to eat.
He will be sentenced on April 9.
