A man allegedly kidnapped a job-seeker after luring her with a job offer, the Dubai Court of First Instance has heard. According to Dubai public prosecution records, the incident happened on July 27. The 31-year-old Pakistani man allegedly kidnapped the woman, a Nepali, after claiming to her she would be working as a maid for his mother.
After spotting her number online, the defendant called the woman and picked her up. He then drove her around Dubai for about three hours as he touched her inappropriately, records show. A complaint was lodged at Al Rafaa police station.
The accused, who has been placed in detention, is charged with kidnap and molestation.
The complainant, a 29-year-old, said the defendant texted her after he saw her number online. "I was looking for a job. On the day of the incident, I was worried about getting into his car, but he reassured me that it was okay."
She recalled how she felt scared when he suddenly began to touch her inappropriately. "He said he did not care about Covid-19 and kept touching me. I told him to stop but he would not and asked me to stay calm. I called my husband and the accused then agreed to drop me."
However, the accused kept driving. "He dropped me and sped away after I told him I would call the police," she said.
A police sergeant said they tracked down the defendant thanks to the car description given by the complainant. "He was driving a car belonging to the company he worked for. The accused admitted at the police station that he did not let the woman leave the car. He claimed he only touched her hand and arm."
The woman's husband, a security guard, said the number posted online was his own. "He picked up my wife in Karama around 5.30pm. Later, she called me crying, saying that the defendant would not let her go. She was very scared as the man was keeping her inside the car against her will. As I begged him to let my wife leave, he began to scream. Finally, he dropped her near Al Quoz."
They complained at the police station later.
