A Nigerian man was sentenced to one year in jail for biting a policeman in his thigh and assaulting two others as they tried to arrest him. The convict was trying to sell alcohol publicly when the policemen confronted him.
In its ruling on Tuesday, the Dubai Court of First Instance also ordered his deportation at the end of his prison sentence.
The three policemen caught the 26-year-old man selling alcohol in public as they patrolled the Naif area. As soon as they confronted him and showed him their police IDs, he tried to resist arrest and assaulted them with a stick. He then bit one of the policemen.
Prosecutors had charged him with physically assaulting the three policemen and injuring them.
Tuesday's ruling remains subject to appeal within 15 days.
