Preparing the government for the future is among the key priorities of the UAE, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has said.
"Improving government performance, ensuring readiness and transforming challenges into opportunities are components of the UAE's approach," he said.
This came as Sheikh Mohammed reviewed the working plans of the recently introduced UAE cabinet portfolio called 'Government Development and the Future'.
"The UAE has become a regional and international model of government development. It has occupied leading positions in the lists of 10 best countries in the world in terms of government confidence, readiness for the future and smart services indexes," he said.
During the meeting, Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Government Development and the Future, said the government has adopted a plan to prepare for the next 50 years.
Over the last few days, Sheikh Mohammed has chaired a series of leadership meetings to monitor the future plans of the government's key portfolios. In the July cabinet reshuffle, he had ordered cancelling 50 per cent of government service centres and converting them to digital platforms within two years; merging 50 per cent of federal agencies with each other or within ministries; creating new ministerial positions; and creating executive heads in specialised sectors.
