Bollywood actress, fitness enthusiast, business woman and a full-time mother Shilpa Shetty Kundra launched her book The Great Indian Diet on Thursday in the presence of Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development. The book was launched at the 10-day book fair being organised by the Lulu Group and DC Books under the Year of Reading initiative, which will conclude today.
The Great Indian Diet is a joint effort by the actress and a famous Indian nutritionist, speaker and lifestyle medicine and integrative healer Luke Coutinho. This book is all about right attitude towards food and lifestyle. Shilpa calls herself a 'health advocate' in the book, realising immense responsibility and role that food plays in making a life.
She emphasised: "There is no free lunch. There has to be certain amount of discipline in anything you want to achieve - be it success in professional field or a personal space like marriage. So you have to have some kind of giving. I am very particular about what goes into my mouth and also about my family. Lot of people might think that I am taking my son's childhood away from him but I really think control is very important from now itself as the packaged food carries lot of preservatives.
The Great Indian Diet is a welcome relief on food, fitness and fun of yoga and exercise. It also talks about the role of spices in the food and how it can be used in a healthier way. Bundle of recipes in the book paves the way for healthy cooking.
This book not only gives an insight into bursting the big fat myth about diet and shows the way to healthy living. It's a complete guide to keep a check on what you eat and simple techniques to lose weight.
Speaking at the event, Luke highlighted how Shilpa managed to lose 32kg post pregnancy. He said: "I have been witness to her whole journey. She never follows a diet, rather followed a healthy lifestyle."
Shilpa added: "I love cooking grilled food, chicken curry, chicken pulao with tamarind sauce. I like fresh and simplified food which is easy to digest." Also, she hinted at her next book "soul curry" which she is still working on.
