Mansur Sultan bin Rashid Al Kharji, director general of the department in Umm Al Quwain, said the inspection section of the department was first alerted about the unlicensed factory.
"We immediately contacted the bodies concerned and launched an inspection campaign against the illegal factory where large amounts of mobile phone batteries, worth Dh150,000, were seized."
Initial investigations show that the company detected did have a trade license from another emirate, he added.
"However, it is involved in illegal and unlicensed industrial and commercial practices," he said, urging the public to immediately report any such practices to the authorities for their safety.
"Any company gets involved in any unlicensed commercial or industrial activity shall be penalised with zero tolerance."
Al Kharji noted that his department is launching surprise campaigns on a regular basis against all the markets, groceries, restaurants, water and foodstuff plants and outlets of the emirate.
"The intensive inspection campaigns are planned to curb such violations and ensure that all the products available in the market are in line with the set rules and standard specifications."
"The department is easily accessible for complaints, suggestions, remarks, feedback, and inquiries either in persona on the Shaikh Ahmed Al Mualla road, by mail at (uaqecon@uaqecon.ae), at mobile (050-1583999), phone (06-7652200), or fax (06-7653322)."
