We chose a quote for our headline on October 5, 2015. Not often done, but what Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai said mattered. "God has blessed UAE....we show our thankfulness with such acts," he said.
The UAE has prospered, and it wants to heal the world through acts of generosity. Humanitarian projects and aid will reach 130 million people through the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives which brings together of 28 organisations focusing on fighting poverty, spreading knowledge and culture, empowering the community, and driving innovation. The foundation will implement over 1,400 human development programmes in more than 116 countries around the world, said our report.
With the Arab world undergoing massive challenges, it's important not to turn our backs on the region, said the Vice-President. The UAE is not just a welcoming country that is prosperous, it wants to promote a culture of giving. A soft power with large heart, we should say.
"The world today is facing great challenges on all levels: in terrorism, wars and mass immigration, and the only solution lies in human development which can be achieved by educating people and helping them build their future," Shaikh Mohammed said.
The Initiative will also endeavour to provide consultancy around the establishment and management of Awqaf and Endowment institutions based on global best practices. It will focus on Awqaf and Endowment knowledge management through conducting and managing research, studies, conferences, workshops and establishing relevant partnerships.
"Expatriate businessmen and investors impressed me by their giving, commitment and appreciation of the importance of Waqf. The UAE will always be the capital of humanity through its initiatives and efforts aimed at serving people and its humanitarian innovative projects," Shaikh Mohammed said.
The Vice-President later launched the Dubai Awqaf and Endowments District which will benefit the UAE and the Arab world. The District will be the first social real estate project inspired by innovation in endowments and will be established with help from development banks in the UAE and across the region, on a property given by Shaikh Mohammed.
