GEMS Education has pledged to set aside four per cent of its school seats - the equivalent of 3,000 students - for those who are unable to pay fees.
The decision will be implemented through an educational endowment in support of the Dubai Awqaf and Endowment vision of his Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Honouring its commitment to the community and the UAE's education sector, GEMS Education received the Dubai Awqaf and Endowment Sign from the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy.
"We are proud to support the community we serve in, and as a private entity, we look forward to strengthening our partnership in promoting the welfare of the community through various initiatives," said GEMS Education chairman and founder Sunny Varkey.
"The announcement of the global Awqaf and Endowment initiative by Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has offered a strong platform for the private sector to support the community effectively."
"We have therefore decided to work with the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy and highlight our role in supporting the educational sector through our new endowment," he added.
"We chose the educational endowment as it is the sector we work in and we are confident of making a positive impact in the community."
The move was quickly welcomed by Hamad Al Hammadi, Secretary-General of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy.
"We are delighted with the prompt response of GEMS Education in supporting the initiative by setting aside seats for students.
The Dubai Awqaf and Endowment Sign presented to GEMS Education from the Centre highlights their effective role in making a difference to the community," he said.
Additionally, Al Hammadi noted that the website of the centre (www.MBRgcec.ae) welcomes queries from individuals and organisations that are ready to receive the Dubai Awqaf and Endowment Sign. Additionally, the Dubai Holding group shall contribute Dh50 million annually. The contribution made by Dubai Holding is going to fund to finance studies and future research based on scientific changes and future technology.
Shaikh Mohammed launched the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Centre for Endowment Consultancy as part of the MBR Global Initiatives.
It is the largest international initiative for endowment and will aim to achieve its global vision through empowering Awqaf and Endowments to meet the social needs of the Arab world.
