An 11-member gang of Asians, who stole 662 laptops worth Dh2,400,000 from a warehouse of an electronic company, was nabbed by the Sharjah Police.
Col Omar Ahmed bu Zoud, director of criminal investigation department (CID) at Sharjah Police, said that they received a complaint from a Sharjah-based electronic firm informing the police about the theft of 662 laptops from their warehouse located in the industrial area.
The police swung into action and formed a team of CID officers to carry out a probe.
The investigation revealed that the gang members snapped connection of all the CCTV cameras installed in the warehouse and carried out the theft without leaving any evidence. They decamped with the goods in two stolen vehicles.
The CID director pointed out that the probe indicated that the gang conducted a recce of the warehouse and monitored it constantly before executing the theft. They divided their roles, and struck a deal with a person to sell the devices immediately after obtaining them, so there's no trace left of the stolen goods.
The police team examined the technique used in the crime and was able to uncover the identity of the criminals. They tracked the gang's movements and network, before laying an ambush and arresting all the members of the group. The stolen items were recovered, and tools used in the crime seized.
Zoud lauded the efficiency and prompt action of the police team. He urged the owners of commercial companies and warehouses to take caution. "They should secure their warehouses by deploying a guard and ensuring there is enough light around it so such crimes can be prevented," he added.
